Chocolate tofu dessert from Nobu in Waikiki! Why the lovely chocolate words? Amyeatsvegetables is engaged! Vegan wedding cake tasting, here I come :)
tomo sushi in burbank is one of my absolute favorite places to eat in los angeles!
i discovered it when i first moved out here two years ago. my omni boyfriend is a sushi fiend and wanted to have dinner at kabuki in downtown burbank. unfortunately, the wait was really long and we were really hungry, so we decided to just wander around the neighborhood and look for something else.
we stumbled into tomo sushi, a tiny sushi bar with dollar bills taped all over the walls, not expecting much, but it was AMAZING! they have a big vegan sushi menu that goes way beyond just the avocado and cucumber roll I was expecting to get.
i usually still get the same things (veggie roll in soy paper and fried tofu roll), but once in awhile i try something new. on my last visit, i discovered that if you asked, they would make you vegan miso soup! i haven’t had miso soup in a restaurant in a long time, so i found this especially exciting- it was so yummy!
also, the chef usually brings you a free taste of something. my favorite is tempura-fried shishito peppers, but i always nom those before i get a pic. pictured above is a little cucumber and seaweed salad.
we always try to sit at the table near this “i love amy forever” dollar! we didn’t put it up there (we have our own), but it always makes us smile, almost as much as the delicious meals we have here!
Kung Fu Panda Tofu!
Before I get into this, full disclosure: my boyfriend works for the company that made this movie and I work for the company distributing the movie. However, I’ve been a fan of Kung Fu Panda since before I knew my boyfriend or worked for my current company. Also, neither of us had any involvement with this promotion.
Anyway, how cool is it that Kung Fu Panda 2 is doing a promotion with ORGANIC TOFU?!? Sure, there will probably still be little Po toys in icky McDonald’s “Happy” Meals, but this is a huge stride forward! I’ve never seen a movie tie-in on a healthy, organic, vegan product so I was very excited to see this in stores.
It’s really appropriate though, because there is A LOT of tofu talk in Kung Fu Panda 2! Po’s dad, Mr. Ping, owns a noodle shop where he serves tofu specials all the time. Since the characters are all animals, they can’t very well be eating themselves and their friends, can they? The movie is super cute and mentions tofu probably eight times so I loved it, regardless of my affiliations!
Sunday’s breakfast (I’m a little behind)… Tofu scramble from Hugo’s in Studio City. I love their stuff, but this was good not great.
